This holiday season, we all gather with friends and family to celebrate the spirit of goodwill, compassion and appreciation for one another. We reflected on the past in anticipation of the future. Many remember good times and prosperity, however, those that are not so fortunate wonder how their lives fell apart and how it resulted in their unexpected homeless state. As we sit down to our holiday celebrations, I ask you to remember our homeless veterans, especially those whom are isolated without a place to share with others, or to call “home.” The holiday season is particularly difficult for those who are estranged from their families. Yet year after year I witness the benevolence of our community when it comes to delivering gifts to our young during the festive holiday season. However, homeless veterans will be overlooked simply because many of us don’t think of adults who might be needy, homeless and quite possibly overlooked during the holidays.

I am making a personal appeal on behalf of these honorable veterans in hope that we will consider including them on our gift lists so they will not be “left behind” once again and go through the holidays without recognition for their honorable service to our country. Please contact Jeff Luddeke (813) 352-7856 to make a donation to a deserving veteran this holiday season. Your donation is completely tax-deductible and you will be helping veterans who have already made many sacrifices for our sake and the freedom that we enjoy in America today.

October 17, 2012, Connie Blaney – CEO of Liberty Manor for Veterans presented Commander Mike of Am Vets Post 44 in Brandon with a Certificate of Appreciation for their support of Liberty Manor. For more than 60 years, AMVETS have taken to heart the credo of service set forth by the organization’s founding fathers. In so doing, they endeavor to provide our fellow veterans with the type of support they truly deserve. This outreach effort takes many forms, from the professional advice of their service officers offer on earned veterans benefits to legislative efforts on Capitol Hill to the work done by their hospital volunteers. Other AMVETS members involves in a range of initiatives aimed at contributing to the quality of life in their local communities.

Brandon Rotary hosted a benefit for Liberty Manor for Veterans on October 17th at California Pizza at Brandon Town Center. The mission of Rotarians is , “Service Above Self”. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service

High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society

The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life

The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

This objective is further set against Rotary’s “Four Way Test”, which is used to see if a planned action is compatible with the Rotarian spirit. The Four Way Test was developed by Rotarian and entrepreneur Herbert J. Taylor during the Great Depression, as a set of guidelines for restoring faltering businesses. It was adopted as the standard of ethics by Rotary in 1942. It is still seen as a standard for ethics in business today.

Liberty Manor for Veterans was presented a donation by benevolent members of Acacia Grove Church on October 17, 2012. Acacia.

Grove began when a heavy burden for reaching the lost, and growing more intimately with Christ, fell upon a few families. The desire God placed in their hearts was to mold the church back to its original form, simply by allowing the Word of God to be the key source of all that is done. In the book of Acts, the early church saw thousands come to faith in Christ by witnessing people live out their faith and share one another’s burdens. In addition, the pure Gospel of Christ was being preached and “the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47) It was desired for a present-day church to imitate and return to the simplicity and effectiveness of the early Christ-followers, so Acacia Grove Church (AGC) was born in January of 2011. Acacia Grove is a non-denominational church that was started by a group of believers who share a common conviction: to urgently see true followers come to Christ by serving in a church where mission and discipleship would be the central work. We believe it is through these two components that God is most glorified in the body. Our ultimate goal is for the fame of God’s name to be manifested fully across the entire world. So, in simple terms, Acacia Grove Church has a strong conviction to function by this equation:Mission + Discipleship = God’s Fame.

Acacia Grove longs to be a church that gives half of their tithes and offerings to those who are in need, locally and around the world. In order to love our neighbor as much as ourselves, this key Christian principle should be lived out faithfully. They are also committed to remain an intimate faith-family, and desire to plant churches once our intimacy becomes lessened. Most of all, we are a group of people who are willing to do whatever it takes to spread the gospel throughout the world.
