Alumni Group to Support Liberty Manor

The Tampa Bay Alumni Club of Syracuse University has chosen to support the Liberty Manor House for Veterans, 10015 Ninth St. North in Tampa, as a part of National Orange Day.

Liberty Manor House is a nonprofit entity that houses any honorably discharged veteran in need of temporary shelter; however, maximum capacity is 18.

“This is a serious national problem with many thousands of homeless veterans on the streets,” said Jim Magee, volunteer program coordinator at Liberty Manor. “Liberty Manor is our local answer to this critical situation.”

The nonprofit survives on a mix of donations from organizations and churches as well as individuals who provide everything from hot meals to gift cards and monetary donations as well as canned goods and clothing.

Board members of the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Tampa Bay will prepare a hot dinner meal for Liberty Manor residents on Thursday.

“This event is part of Syracuse University’s National ‘Orange Day’ Community Service effort whereby local alumni clubs participate in serving their own community needs,” said Theresa Cross, club president. “It is our hope to continue this relationship and assist Liberty Manor in the future to address this national concern.”
